Dozens of deaths after large explosion caused by oil truck crashing into shuttle bus
On the morning of Thursday, the 18th of October a huge fire took place on Church Street in the direction of Muqadas. An oil truck collided with a shuttle bus on its way to unload a large load of oil. The crash caused a huge explosion and resulted in 37 deaths and 54 seriously injured. At the moment the fire fighters are still extinguishing the fire and are trying to limit the damage. The road will be closed for 2 weeks. People will have to use the Wali Road to get to their destination.

"It was real horror"
It was a normal morning on the road, until 10:37 AM when an oil truck crashed into a shuttle bus of Kanisa. There was a huge explosion and the fire is still burning. Not many people survived the crash. Yessin (37) saw everything happen. “I was just on my way to the local market, when a gigantic fireball happened in front of me. I saw bodies burning on the street. It was a real horror.’
37 deaths and 54 seriously injured
The cause of the crash is not yet known. A few pedestrians said they saw the shuttle bus driver on his phone while driving. That has not yet been confirmed. The youngest victim was Hamza (3 years old). His mother and him didn’t survive the crash. The emergency services came too late for many. Many of the survivors are now in the hospital in intensive care with third-degree burns. 37 died and 54 people are seriously injured.
​Three men try to rob a jewellery in Muqadas with fake guns
Yesterday evening the jewellery Jorissen’s in Muqadas was robbed. 3 armed men came in and took everything from the showcase. Later it turned out that the weapons were fake. The robbers were caught and can expect a sentence of 5 years in prison.
Thursday evening, 3 men entered the jewellery Jorissen’s in our capital city and tried to rob it with fake guns. “They acted really suspicious from the beginning”, says the manager, who was ready to close his shop. They walked to the counter and pulled out a gun. They demanded to put everything of jewellery in their bag.

Behind the counter is a button that directly alerts the emergency services and locks the door. Before putting anything in the bag, the brave manager pushed the button, ran to the storage room in the back and locked himself up. The robbers took anything they could, broke the window of the shop and got away.
The emergency services were quickly on the scene and were able to track down and intercept the thieves. They had stolen over 20 000 euros worth of jewellery. Luckily, the thieves did not get far, and the store manager got everything back. Later, the police discovered that the weapons used were fake. All three are in prison and are due to appear in court next Thursday. But with the facts that happened, they are at least looking at a 5-year prison sentence.
Ten-year-old boy wins Kanisa’s chess championship
Hamza Rachit, a ten-year-old boy from Muqadas has won the big chess championship and becomes the youngest person who receives the title “chess master” that Kanisa has ever seen.

At first sight, Hamza looks like a normal boy of ten, just like any other. But under the body of a child, hides a chess mastermind. It was the biggest competition he has ever been in and won. “Everything I learnt, I learned from my dad”, says Hamza.
Hamza has won a few other championships in his short but successful career. He is representing his school on the international chess championship next year in November. This edition will take place in Stockholm. His school has started a chess club to encourage other students to play chess. Hamza is willing to teach classes on how to play chess and wants to teach it to his friends, so they can understand his passion about the sport
His talent is unseen in the country of Kanisa. With his 10 years and 315 days is he the youngest person to ever win a chess championship of that level. In the finale of the championship, he came against formal champion Jan Jorissen. It was a nerve-wracking battle that lasted 5 hours and 27 minutes. “To play on such a level at that age is really impressive”, Says Jorissen. To put in perspective on how unique this accomplishment really is, you should know that the second-youngest person to win that championship was 13 years and 27 days.
